Norges speiderforbund (The Norwegian Scouts Association) has passed a new Scout oath to appease non-believers. It says, «I promise to pursue my philosophy of life to the best of my knowledge.»
On Saturday, a large majority of the representatives at the national assembly of the Association voted in favour of the motion for a new Scouts oath, as is required for altering the basic rules of the Association.
Until this decision, the promise went as follows, «I promise to be open towards God, to help others, and to live by the Scout law, to the best of my knowledge.»
On Saturday, the promise was altered to, «I promise to pursue my philosophy of life, to help others, and to live by the Scout law, to the best of my knowledge.»
– We have focused on being able to include as many as possible, the Scout leader, May-Britt Roald, explains.
Norges speiderforbund is a children and youth association counting about 19.000 members.
